Broadway & The Bard

Broadway and The Bard is playing at the Lion Theatre located at 410 West 42nd Street. It runs eighty minutes with no intermission. The show closes on March 6, 2016.

The show stars Len Cariou. He won a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award in 1979 for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barbour of Fleet Street. He was nominated for a Tony Award for Applause in 1976 and A Little Night’s Music in 1973.

Len is now appearing in the television series Blue Bloods. He also was in the television series Murder She Wrote. In 2004 he was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.

The show opens with Orsino from”Twelfth Night” Act I scene I. Which follows with “Love, I Hear” by Stephen Sonheim /”Falling in Love” by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart.

There are ten more scenes from Shakespeare followed by songs that are related to the scene. At the end of each skit Len tells you who wrote the song and if it is from a musical, which one it is.

The pianist is Mark Janas. Occasionally he will sing a line or two from the song Len is singing.

This is a delightful show. A little of the Bard and variety of wonderful songs.

Who knew Shakespeare could be so grand!

Len Cariou did an incredible job. Mark Janas played the ivories with such rapture.
