Harry Potter and The Cursed Child
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is playing at the Lyric Theatre located at 214 West 43rd Street. It’s in two parts, Part One runs two hours forty minutes and Part Two runs two hours thirty-five minutes, both have a twenty-minute intermission. It is open ended run.
The show was nominated for ten 2018 Tony awards. It won six Tony Awards for Best Play, director John Tiffany, Scenic Christine Jones, Lighting Design Neil Austin, Costume Katrina Lindsay, Sound Design Gareth Fry, Choreography Steven Hoggett and nominated for Best actors James Parker, Noma Dumezweni and Anthony Boyle.
Christine Joes is the scenic designer. She won a Tony Award in 2010 for American Idiot and was nominated for a Tony Award in 2007 for Spring Awakening.
The story of Harry, Ron and Hermine takes place 19 years later. They have families of their own. Part 1 Act 1 Harrys son Albus (Nicholas Podany) is on his way to Hogwarts School. The section he’s in Draco (Junno Roberts) son Scorpius (Bubba Weiler) is there. Draco is an enemy of Harry. Scorpius and Albus are fast friends. They go looking for Amos Diggory (Edward James Hyland) son. Diving into a pool. Scorpius comes out of the water but not Albus. He is told Harry Potter died 20 years ago. When it ends It says on the stage wall to be continue.
Part 2 revolves around finding Albus and keeping evil forces taking over since Harry isn’t there to kill them. We meet lots more Harry Potter characters.
Part one Act 1 at some points was over whelming with different characters and trying to remember who they were and how they fit in with each other.
Part 1 Act 2 and Part 2 1 & 2 were very well done.
The cast was outstanding.
The set done by Christopher Jones was amazing.
If you are a Harry Potter fan you will love this show. If not, you will be.
