Harry Townsend's Last Stand

Harry Townsend’s Last Stand is playing at the New York City Center located at 131 West 55th Street. It runs two hours with one intermission. The play closes on February 9, 2020.

Len Cariou made his Broadway debut in 1968 in House of Atreus. He won a Tony Award for Sweeney Todd (1979) and was nominated for two Tony Awards for A Little Night’s Music (1973) and Applause (1970).

Craig Bierke was nominated for a Tony Award in 2000 for The Music Man.

The time is the present day in Harry Townsend’s chalet in Vermont.

Harry (Len Cariou) son Alan (Craig Bierko) is visiting his dad. He hasn’t seen him in over a year. The place is a mess. Harry walks with a cane and sometimes he loses his balance.

Alans sister Sarah comes to check on him in the morning. Alan and Sarah are twins.

Harry embarrasses his son when he tells him about his sex life with his mother. They were married for 35 years.

Sarah’s husband just got a job in New York City. She’s torn about leaving her dad. Harry refuses to move. The house is where wants to die.

Alan eventually gets him to change mind.

This is a story anyone can relate to. It’s well done.

Len Cariou and Craig Bierko were amazing.

The scenic design is done by Lauren Helpern. It was impressive. There were sounds done by John Gromada made you feel like that you were in the house and that you were hearing the birds and nature outside.
