IF/Then

If/Then is playing at the Richard Rogers Theatre located at 226 West 46th Street. It runs two hours and thirty five minutes with one intermission. The show is an open ended run.

The musical was written by Tom Kit and Brian Yorkey. They won a Pulitzer Prize in Drama for “Next to Normal” (2010). They also won two Tony Awards for “Next to Normal”. Brian has been nominated for a Tony Award for the score of If/Then.

Idina Mendez won a Tony for Wicked (2004). She was nominated for a Tony Award in 1996 for “Rent”. Idina has been nominated for a Tony Award for If/Then.

LaChanze won a Tony Award in 2006 for “The Color Purple”. She was nominated for a Tony Award for “Once on This Island” (1991). LaChanze won an Emmy Award for “Handel’s Messiah Rocks” (2010).

The place is Madison Square Park and all around New York City.

If/Then revolves around Elizabeth (Idina Menzel) and the people in her life.

Elizabeth is a city planner who has moved to New York City after her divorce. She has come to the city to start a new life. Her neighbor Kate (LaChanze) tells her to meet her in in Madison Square Park. She meets her old friend Lucas (Anthony Rapp) there. By chance she meet a soldier there named Josh (James Snyder). The other male in her life is Stephen (Jerry Dixon). He got her a job with the city.

The other people whose life’s are involved are Kate’s friend Anne (Jenn Colilla) and Lucas friend David (Jason Tam).

The basis of the story is IF I'm with Lucas THEN this would have happened. IF I went with Stephen or Jason THEN this would have happened. The scenario would change with each man or women they were involved with.

The story line is constantly changes to WHAT IF?

Idina is remarkable in this role. She can hold a note like no one I have heard.

The rest of the cast is great. They work well together.

I liked it because quirky. It is a different way of telling a story.

What IF I did didn’t see the show Then you would have go to find out yourself how good it was!

Well What If?
