Lennon Through A Glass Onion

Lennon Through a Glass Onion is playing at the Union Square Theatre located at 100 East 17th Street. The musical runs one hour thirty minutes with no intermission. The show closes on February 22, 2015.

John Lennon was a British singer, and part of a rock group called “The Beatles” during the 1960’s. The group dissolved in 1970. Many of the songs he wrote with Paul McCartney. John was a musician, singer, song writer, record producer, artist, writer and activist. He was killed in 1980 at the age of 40.

John R. Waters was born in Britain but is well known as a performer in Australia. He has been in twenty stage productions, twenty two films and forty three TV series/telemovies.

John performs thirty one of Lennon’s songs.

The show opens with Stewart D’Arrietta singing. The light goes out and we hear several gun shots.

When the lights come back on John Lennon (John R. Waters) is singing. In between the songs he chats about his life. Sometimes he does not sing all of the song. The show begins in Liverpool and goes on until his death. Among the things he talks about are “The Beatles”, his mum and Yoko Ono. He recalls seeing a man five hours before in the front of his apartment building. Later that man approaching him with a book. At the end the stage gets dark, shots are heard. The lights come on with John singing “Imagine”

John R. Waters does not try to imitate Lennon. He gives his version of the songs. If you know the Beatles, John Lennon and Yoko Ono it’s a reminder of the wonderful songs he created. For the younger generation it gives you an insight on the man and his music.

When I first heard the gun shots it sent a chill up my spine.

This is a wonderful show to see.
