Lord of the Dance

Lord Of The Dance, Dangerous Games is playing at the Lyric Theatre located at 213 West 42nd Street. It runs two hours with one intermission. The show closes on January 3, 2016.

The show premiered on June 1996 at the Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland.

Lord Of The Dance is an Irish musical created, produced, directed and choreographed by Michael Flatley.

The basic story is a villain from another universe Dark Lord (Tom Cunnighan) comes to earth to destroy Lord of the Dance (James Keegan).

There are different dance numbers; some are tape, ballet and Irish jig. Located at the back of the stage is a full screen that shows different visual effects.

Lord of the Dance female friend is Saoirse (Erin Kate Mcliragrey).

When the Dark Lord invades the plant he has his female friend Morringhan (Brea McGaffey) seduce Lord of the Dance to take his Lord of the Dance belt.

Of course he wins his belt back.

Little Spirit (Jess Judge) comes and goes playing her flute.

Every once in a while Erin the Goddess (Sophie Evans) sings a song.

This is a very entertaining show despite the fact there is much of a story. But who cares, the visual effects and dances make up for it.

This show has such a large cast of talented dancers. Lord of the Dance, Dark Lord, Saoirse and Morrighan are performed by three different people who do the role at different performances. When they are not doing the major role they are in the ensemble.

There is no mention on who did the visual effects.. At times I didn’t know which to watch the visual or the dancers both were excellent.

Michael Flatley does not perform at the matinees. At the evening performances he is in the finally and encore.
