Miss Saigon

Miss Saigon is playing at the Broadway Theatre located at 1681 Broadway. It runs two hours forty minutes with one intermission. The musical closes on January 15, 2018.

The musical premiered at the Theatre Royale, Drury Lane, London from September 20, 1989 to December 30, 1999. It ran for 4,092 performances. It opened on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre on April 11, 1991 to January 28, 2001. It ran for 4, 092 performances. The musical was nominated for ten Tony Awards and won three. It won for Lead Actor, Jonathan Pryce, Lead Actress, Lea Salonga and Best Feature Actor, Hinton Battle.

The show was nominated for two 2017 Tony Awards for Best Actress Eva Noblezada and Best Revival of a Musical. Jon Jon Briones was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for this role.

Act One takes place in Saigon in 1975 and Ho Chin Min City (formerly Saigon) April 1978. John (Nicholas Christopher) is partying with Chris (Alistar Brammer) and their buddies. They are in a club run by The Engineer (Jon Jon Briones). He runs a prostitute ring in the establishment.

Chris is depressed wondering why he is in Saigon again. All is lost until he sees Kim (Eva Noblezada). She has just arrived in town with no means to support herself. The Engineer offers her a job. Chris falls for her and sets her up in an apartment. When he is sent home he promises her he will come back and get her. Three year have past when we find out she had Chris’s child.

Act takes place in Atlanta September 1978, Bangkok October 1978, Saigon April 1975 and Bangkok October 1978.

Chris has married. He has nightmares about Kim. His wife Ellen (Katie Rose Clarke) comforts him.

John is part of an organization trying to find home for children fathered by American soldiers

The Engineer goes to the Embassy and tells them about Kim and her son. He hopes they all will be sent to the United States. They get touch with John who tells Chris. Reluctantly Chris and his wife go Bangkok. Their intention is to to give her money.

Kim finds out he is coming, she is thrilled. She thinks that he has come to take her and there child back to the United States.

This is the basis of the story. I left out details as not to spoil it for you.

This is a well done revival. The acting was incredible. Jon Jon Briones was awesome. What a wonderful set.

I am glad I did not miss out on seeing this revival and I am sure you won’t be disappointed either.
