Mother, Wife and the Complicated Life

Mother, Wife and the Complicated Life was part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival 2013. It played at The Studio Theatre, Pershing Signature Square Center. The theatre is located at 480 West 42nd Street. It ran ninety minutes with no intermission.

The musical was written in 2008 by Australian writer and composer Amity Dry. It debut in 2009 at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in Australia.

The show is about four friends and how their lives revolves around each other. Two are married with children, Bee (Cicily Daniels) and Lily (Happy McPartlin). Jessie (Mollie Vogt-Welch) just got engaged. Kate (Vanessa Lemonides) is pregnant and single. Each friend gives advice to one another. Bee tells Katie books don't tell you everything about how to raise a child. You learn from experience.

This is an enjoyable show. Some of the great songs sung are ”Breastfeeding Blues” and “Wake Me”.

I think if it had a better set and the musicians were out of site it would have helped but then this is just a festival. I have my own ideas for the set. Well if they make me set designer I’ll tell them.

I had a chance to talk to Vanessa after the show. She said the show has been running in Australia for four years and has a following. Vanessa has been in the show for a month. They hope the show gets picked up for an off Broadway run.

Let’s hope so. It would make a good off Broadway production. Women will enjoy it the most. They can relate to the story one way or another
