Puppet Titus Andronicus

Puppet Titus Andronicus is playing at Theatre Row, Beckett Theatre located at 410 West 42nd St. The show runs ninety minutes with one intermission. The play closes on August 17, 2014.

Written by William Shakespeare somewhere from 1588-1593. It was considered his most tragic & bloodiest play.

It is sometimes hard understanding Shakespeare when it is done in the conventional way. When it’s done with puppets well that’s another story. If you don’t know the story then you’re lost as to why the events that happening the way they are. There are times when the scenes are excellent. But then there scenes when it seems like a bunch of wild crazy puppets. Is it supposed to be a drama or a comedy?

When a puppet throat is slashed some kind of liquid is sprayed out hitting the front row. Or the puppet throws up; bile is thrown at the audience (knitting yarn).

The set is sparse but appropriated.

The show has potential. Maybe if the story is explained in the program? The audience was young and laughed. It could be you have to be in-between 20-30 to enjoy it.
