The Marvelous Wonderettes

The Marvelous Wonderettes is playing at the Kirk Theatre in Theatre Row located at 410 West 42nd Street. It runs two hours with one intermission. The show is open ended musical, playing on Wednesday and Sunday matinees and Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

The musical premiered at the Westside Theatre in New York City on September 14, 2008 to January 3, 2010. It opened at this theatre on April 28, 2016.

The show opens at the 1958 senior prom.

The group that was supposed to sing at the prom, the led singing got suspended for smoking at school. The Marvelous Wonderettes were asked if they would fill in. They open with the song, Mr. Sandman. Each of the members Cindy Lu (Jenna Leigh Green), Missy Miller (Kristy Cates), Suzy (Ryann Redmond) and Betty Jean (Sally Schwab) will perform solo songs in hopes of being selected as Homecoming Queen.

Near the end of the first act you are asked to take out the ballot in your program and vote on who you want to be queen. Each girl collects the ballots and hand them to Suzy. She trips sending the ballots all over the audience.

Act two is the ten year class reunion of the class of 1958. Each of the ladies tells what has happen to them in past ten years especially in regard to love.

The songs in Act One are from the 50’s and Act Two are from the 60’s. Each song conveys what they are feeling.

This is a fun show that you will enjoy especially if you can relate to the songs being played.

All of the actresses have beautiful voices.
