The Woodsman

The Woodsman is playing at the New World Stages located at 350 West 50th Street. It runs one hour ten minutes with no intermission. The play is open ended.

It originally opened at 59E59 Theatre in 2015.

The play is based on the writings of L. Frank Baum. The puppet was designed by James Ortiz.

In the land near Oz the town is overcome by the wicked witch of the East. No one knows where she came from. They live in fear and stop talking. They fear the crows report back to the witch and tell her what they saying.

To go into the woods is frightening and dangerous. There is a monster with the face of a tiger and a body of a bear in the woods.

The story tells us about the tin man Nick Chopper (James Ortiz) and how he lost his heart. I can’t tell you, I don’t want to spoil it for you.

It is a delightful, entertaining show.

The puppets, witches, crows and more are a pleasure.

The use of puppets, violin (Aron McDonald) and sound effects enhance the show.

James Ortiz is wonderful. The facial expressions are amazing on the whole cast.

It may not be Kansas but who cares! Go see it anyway.

BUT before you sit down, look at the photos on the wall. They are of that time period the book was written. Some of the illustration are from Baum books and people of that time period.
